Sue Rourke
Counselling and Psychotherapy

Hello, I’m Sue. I’m a fully qualified counsellor with over 1200 hours (as of March 2026) of clinical experience, working with individuals, young people, couples and families.

I know that looking for a counsellor can feel overwhelming. When you read profile after profile, it can be hard to know who might feel right for you. I encourage you to get in touch so we can discuss your specific needs and explore whether we feel like the right fit for one another.

If you’ve found your way here, it may be because something in life feels difficult right now. You might be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, low, anxious, disconnected, or simply exhausted from carrying things on your own. Sometimes there is a clear reason for how we feel, and sometimes there isn’t. Either way, you do not have to face it alone.

Counselling can offer you a space to talk honestly, without fear of judgement, and begin to make sense of what is happening for you. It can also be a place to explore patterns, relationships, past experiences, or parts of yourself that may be affecting how you feel now.

My aim is to offer a space where you feel safe enough to speak openly, and to move at a pace that feels manageable for you.

I understand that starting therapy can feel exposing, and I do not believe in pushing people before they are ready. At the same time, I believe therapy is a place for honest reflection, gentle challenge and meaningful change. I am straight-talking in my approach and, where helpful, I may gently challenge unhelpful thoughts or patterns to support the outcomes you want for yourself.

This means there may be times when I invite you to reflect more deeply or to be vulnerable, but always with care and purpose. My role is to support you with compassion, clarity and honesty as we work through whatever is bringing you to counselling.

I work in a way that is grounded in established counselling approaches, but I always try to keep therapy real, relatable and relevant to everyday life. I believe counselling should feel human - not full of jargon, not distant, and not based on unrealistic ideas about how people “should” be.

I work with individuals, young people, couples and families, and I have specialist training in these areas. I understand that relationship work and individual therapy each need a different kind of care and attention. I also offer support around sexual issues where these are part of your experience and something you would like space to explore.

As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I work within its professional and ethical framework.

For me, therapy works best when it feels collaborative. I believe you have a right to understand the process, ask questions, and feel involved in the work we are doing together. I aim to be open and transparent, so that therapy feels like something we build together rather than something being done to you.
