Lynnie Anderson
Bereavement and childhood trauma counsellor
I am a registered member of the BACP (Membership Number: 00722787) with over 15 years of experience providing counselling services to both private clients and organisations. I offer a calm, supportive, and trusting environment through face-to-face sessions, online therapy, telephone counselling, and messaging support.
As a passionate person-centred therapist, I firmly believe that each individual is unique and deserves an approach tailored to their personal needs. While person-centred therapy remains at the heart of my work, I also integrate elements of other therapeutic approaches when beneficial, including Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic, Relational therapy and Creative therapies. Drawing upon a range of theories and concepts enables me to consider the “whole person,” ensuring that your individual experiences, needs, and goals remain central throughout the therapeutic process.
Although my work extends across a wide range of presenting issues, for example, anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem, I have significant experience supporting clients navigating bereavement and loss, including complex grief such as the loss of a significant person through sudden, accidental, or suicide-related circumstances. I also work with broader experiences of loss, including relationship breakdown, health changes, retirement, lifestyle transitions, and job loss. In addition, I support adults working through childhood and adolescent trauma/experiences.
Bereavement, loss, and unresolved past experiences can be deeply painful and overwhelming. They may bring feelings of sadness, confusion, guilt, fear, blame, and emotional exhaustion. Unfortunately, these experiences can sometimes be met with misunderstanding from others who “just don’t know what to say,” which can unintentionally interrupt the natural grieving process and leave individuals feeling unsupported during a time when compassion is needed most.
My understanding of loss is not only professional but also personal. I have lived with my own experiences of confusion, sadness, fear, and loss, and I understand how difficult it can feel to reach out for support. My own healing journey began through the empathy, patience, and understanding shown by a counsellor, and this experience continues to shape the way I work today.
Alongside my counselling practice, I have enjoyed delivering counselling training within private settings and teaching counselling across universities and colleges. My qualifications include a Master of Science in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Foundation Degree in the Theory and Practice of Counselling, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I am also deeply committed to ongoing professional and personal development and continually engage in further learning to ensure my practice remains current, informed, and continually nurtured.
Over time, I have become increasingly passionate about the importance of therapy being delivered with genuine compassion, empathy, and authenticity. These are not simply concepts to be applied mechanically; they must be communicated in ways that are truly felt and experienced by the client.
I believe that the depth of connection developed between counsellor and client can be profoundly healing. Building trust through a meaningful therapeutic relationship is a vital part of the healing process, and the concept of relational depth is something I am particularly passionate about both in practice and within research. Working predominantly with clients experiencing grief and loss has reinforced for me the importance of warmth, presence, and emotional connection in creating a safe therapeutic space.
For all the lived experiences shared by myself and others, I continue to believe deeply in the healing power of the therapeutic process.
Seeking support takes courage. Whatever brings you here, my aim is to provide a calm, accepting, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences freely, without fear. Together, we can work toward understanding, healing, and helping you move forward in your life.
If you feel this is a journey you would like to begin, I would welcome the opportunity to walk alongside you.

What Does a Bereavement and Childhood Trauma Counsellor do?
A bereavement and childhood trauma counsellor provides emotional and psychological support to individuals experiencing grief, loss, and the impact of traumatic or distressing childhood events.
They create a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental environment where clients can openly explore difficult emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Working with individuals affected by bereavement, significant life changes, or childhood trauma, they support people in understanding their emotional responses and the ways these experiences may affect their wellbeing, relationships, and daily life.
Using trauma-informed and person-centred approaches, they help clients develop coping strategies, build resilience, process challenging experiences, and move towards healing and emotional wellbeing at a pace that feels safe and appropriate to their individual needs.
Psychotherapy on the other hand helps the individual explore emotional difficulties with greater depth.
